What is Perception?

Perception refers to the ability for the brain to take in and interpret messages from the body and the environment to give these messages meaning. This affects the way a person with dementia understands and navigates the space and objects around them.

In this section we will discuss three concepts:

  • Spatial awareness
  • Recognition (agnosia)
  • Mind-body coordination (motor apraxia)
